Estrellia is a velvet red double that flowers very early in the season. This new hybrid is definitely the rarest Peony we have in our line up and the potential for a sort after cut flower has us excited. Estrellia is unusual for a lactiflora as the flowering period will run for as long as 4 weeks beginning in early October, also the foliage has a more pointed appearance and lighter green in colour. The overall plant habit is excellent with tall stems and good growth. Another interesting aspect is the flowers open a rich velvet red and darken as they mature this being the opposite of many peonies which the colour would normally lighten and brighten up in the sun. The form of the flower is stunning as they open in a classical cupped bowl shape and show off rich yellow stamens in the centre when fully open. Excellent vase life!
